For more than half a century, Grupa Azoty Zakłady Chemiczne Police S.A. has been Poland’s largest manufacturer of compound fertilizers. In 2005, still trading under the name of Zakłady Chemiczne Police, the company was listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (ticker: PCE), where it is currently included in the WIG-CHEMICALS, sWIG 80, InvestorMS, WIG and WIG-Poland indices. In August 2011, the company became part of Poland’s largest chemical group and a key player of the European fertilizer and chemical industry – Grupa Azoty, whose parent is Grupa Azoty S.A. of Tarnów.
Since 1969, when the plant’s first department was commissioned, Grupa Azoty Zakłady Chemiczne Police S.A. has remained the leading industrial complex in the region of Pomerania. Drawing on its best traditions, the company has kept abreast of the needs of a modern market, enhancing its manufacturing capabilities and aligning its product range with global standards. This has been possible thanks to a continual process of upgrading and expanding the plant. Grupa Azoty Zakłady Chemiczne Police S.A. boasts a unique titanium white unit, as Poland’s only producer of that pigment.
Currently, the greatest challenge faced by the company, but also by the entire Grupa Azoty Group, is the Polimery Police project to construct an integrated chemical complex that would comprise propylene and polypropylene production units with auxiliary facilities, a handling and storage terminal and logistics infrastructure. Polimery Police stands out as one of the largest capital investment projects undertaken by Polish or European chemical producers.
In keeping with the principles of sustainability and circular economy, for many years Grupa Azoty Zakłady Chemiczne Police S.A. has been committed to ensuring that its fertilizers and other products are environmentally friendly and safe. By streamlining and modernising its plant’s processes that leave an environment footprint, the company seeks to reduce the volume of waste and pollutant emissions into the air. Every year, the company makes significant outlays on pro-environmental projects. Recently, it successfully completed the construction of a waste-free flue gas desulfurisation (FGD) system, worth more than PLN 200m. The company’s ongoing commitment to ensuring superior standards in safety and environmental protection, as well as its contribution to raising the public’s environmental awareness, have been confirmed by the World Environment Center certificate for its landfill site restoration technology, unique on the global scale, the title of Environmentally Friendly Company, a Green Laurel and the title of Patron of the Polish Ecology, to name just a few accolades. Continuous improvement and training of staff are vital factors in raising the environmental awareness and a key pillar of the company’s policy.
